I have potted you every summer in Bognor Regis with my family, all of whom have had a rewarding time looking after you. I have travelled with you in the back of my friend’s barely functioning&nbsp; transit van– and left you in car parks, university building, technical cupboards, studios, storerooms and garden patios. I have ‘charmed’ security guards and broken windows for you. I&nbsp; have made make-shift hose pipes in my desperation to feed you. I have relocated slugs and killed&nbsp; greenfly&nbsp; to protect you. I have carried and lifted you through fields and lifts, been up and down stairs, in and out of buildings to move you from sun to shade - too many times to count. I have wept uncontrollably with exhaustion - with the thought you were dying of thirst. At times I have lost all dignity and hope - and have had to be consoled. I have brought experts together, across many professions&nbsp; and departments to work for you. I have been called the woman with an ‘unhealthy obsession’ and unashamedly introduced you as my creative partner to Rufus Norris. I have force fed you Miracle-Gro in order to …’JUST COME ON AND SAY SOMETHING!’. I have lost patience with you. I have forsaken you. I have squashed your delicate little head into the palm of my hands to try and understand you. I have injected UV dye into your veins in order to expose your insides. I have cut you and bathed you in jars of oil in order to preserve you. I have invited friends and colleagues over to sit with you and to pass the time (and aid existential chit chat). I have gotten drunk with you. I have done all of this just to get to know you better.&nbsp; To spend quality time with you -&nbsp; to experience time with you - through you. And I have done this because when I see you move at dusk I witness real magic; I witness birth and death and all times rolled up into one. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; We The Curious 2017 In July 2017, Abigail made an audio led workshop called A converstaion with Primrose&nbsp; for children and young families set inside a greenhouse. A Conversation With Primrose&nbsp; invites young people to experience the theatre in nature, through headsets. Audiences dissect a flower and understand the secret language of flowers/plants - circadian rhythms - using a mixture of storytelling and instruction. Listen to some stories about nature and time, and the cosmos, and how we as humans are the in between mediator. &nbsp; To watch some illustrated videos about the above. This was the first time to pull together ideas and test&nbsp; the technology in-front of a small audience.&nbsp; The video shows the scratch. Animation and illustration were introduced&nbsp; to aid the instruction of the dissection section and audeince journey. Dissection kits were designed and made. Possible set - scales and configurations were thought about. Theatre Studios 2014 In 2014, Abigail, Melanie and Ross returned to NTS and spent time with plants grown from seed by Abigail and her family. This was an eventful residency, that presented&nbsp; many discoveries and fruitful conversation, focussing&nbsp; on developing the sonic, technical&nbsp; and structural elements of the show. An activity around building a clock was explored ( audiences&nbsp; building a literal time piece before watching natures clock). Timelab was made in response to this, a workshop project inviting audiences to ‘smash’ old watches and make jewellery&nbsp; out of old time. Abigail and Ross&nbsp; went on a field trip to Cambridge university and met with Dr Alex Webb,&nbsp;a plant biologist specialising in circadian rhythms. By the end of this residency, further inspiration was made in connection to plant biology, medical aspects of primrose , a dissection and plant anatomy. Theatre Studios 2013In 2012 and March 2013,&nbsp; Abigail embarked on reseraching how to make&nbsp; a show exploring human relationships to time and nature.&nbsp;In July 2013, Abigail developed ideas with award winning sound artist, writer and performer, Melanie Wilson, and interactive system designer Ross Flight. These collaborations allowed her to investigate possible structures and themes for Primrose and look at computer systems that responded with sound to plant ‘triggers’. Studying the circadian rhythms in both plants and humans, Abigail started to investigate all types of clocks, mechanical and natural. A major inspiration for the work came&nbsp; from an 18c Botanist&nbsp; called Carl Linnaeus who wrote ‘Horologium florae’ (Flower Clock) published in&nbsp; Philosophica Botanica (1751).&nbsp; Carl made the first list of local flowers with specific times of when flowers opened and closed.&nbsp; The time of day could be deduced according to which species had opened or closed its flowers. This sequential flowering over a day became known as a floral clock.&nbsp; Carl wrote about 3 types of flowers, the Meteorici, Tropici and Aequinoctales.
